We drove to Austin a few weekends ago to celebrate the one-year birthday of our “nephew”(he isn’t really our nephew, but we are so close to his parents that we just call him that 🙂 ). We arrived late so he was already tucked away in his little crib, but the next morning we woke to see Ryder in his little cotton onesie, peering down at us from his mother’s arms, those big, brown tired eyes staring into our faces with a look of slight confusion. It didn’t take but a minute before he was walking around the living room with that cheeky little smile, bringing us all of his toys and books to read 🙂
My goodness, I thought, is he really walking? OH yes, he is walking fast and, like every little boy, the few words and sounds that he does have are related to trucks and cars (and Mama and Dada, of course. We’re I’m working on “Hannah”).
After a sweet morning reading to Ryder and rolling toy cars around, all of us loaded up the birthday gear and headed to the park to celebrate one year of Ryder’s life with his closest friends and family. I am just gushing right now thinking about how much love that boy is surrounded by, and will continue to be engulfed in for the rest of his life.
Katie and Jared, thank you for the honor and joy of celebrating Ryder with you and your family. We love you guys and your little one beyond words, and look forward to many, many more birthdays 🙂
Frosting faces and wrapping paper,
